What you can do to be successful in biology:
Do your work. The work we do in class and as homework covers the scientific concepts and ideas outlined in the State of Minnesota Science Standards. It is difficult to learn if you do not put in the time to do your work.
Read your textbook. Your biology textbook provides additional information to what is covered in class. The pictures, diagrams, graphs, and tables will also help present the scientific information in a visible manner.
Be in class. It is difficult to learn and understand the biology concepts if you are not here. Remember the PCHS attendance policy - if you miss school, you are responsible for completing the make-up work.
Practice the vocabulary. There will be A LOT of new vocabulary words each chapter. Make flash cards, drill and quiz your friends, and look over the vocabulary words each night. Knowing the vocabulary will make the ideas and concepts easier to understand.
Study a little each day. Do not try and memorize everything the night before the test. To really learn the material, practice or study a little each night. If you fall behind, spend a little extra time the next day to get caught up.
Stay organized. Use your planner to keep track of assignments and due dates. Keep your science notebook neat, organized, and up to date.
Take an active roll in your learning. Pay attention in class. Take notes. Participate in activities, laboratories, and discussions. The more you are involved, the more you will learn.
Ask for help. If you do not understand a concept, idea, assignment, etc., make sure you come and talk to me.
Have fun. You will get out of the class what you put into it. Come with a positive attitude and treat everyone with respect. You really can learn and have fun at the same time!
